I understand Bentancur/Tonali offers a lot of security and will be a big part of two clean sheets in a row. So it’s tempting. Italian coaches love clean sheets. But they’re also impacting our ability to progress the ball into the final third in an effective way. Balance needed.

I’d prefer not to see that pivot again. I didn’t think Tonali was what we needed this summer albeit I think he’s good. For me he’s a marginal Bentancur upgrade. To see them playing *together* is annoying. Neither of them passes the ball exceptionally. So get Fernandes in there.

RDZ seems so certain, which is reassuring, but every time we don’t win I become increasingly unconvinced. Are the players feeling the same way? Does it all feed in? Anyway, I think Tuesday’s match is coming at the perfect time. I would pick more or less the same XI (+Porro). BUT!

I’ve seen this before. A team on the cusp of clicking where it doesn’t feel quite right and then suddenly *BANG* everything is fine. But I don’t know that there are any data I can point to to help convince me that that’s what’s going to happen. So I’m left hoping. Or is it cope?

I feel in such a weird place with Spurs. After the relative upward trajectory of the run-in, full squad reset, decent pre-season results, and players returning from injury I felt positive going into this season. Especially considering there are so many other clubs in transition.
