The BOP's purpose is to make people suffer needlessly. That is exactly what it does by design and the mechanics of it all are captured in detail in Keonne's latest letter.
I'm thankful to see Keonne's sense of humor still shining through the dark details. #freesamourai

At Keonne's sentencing, the judge issued the maximum prison sentence of 5-years plus the maximum fine of $250k. At Bill's sentencing the judge issued a 4-year prison sentence plus the maximum fine of $250k. They will be accruing interest on those fines while they're in prison. ht

Bill & Keonne were indicted 6-months later anyways. The Conspiracy to Commit Money Laundering charge was dropped in a plea-deal & as part of this deal, Bill & Keonne had to plead guilty to the Conspiracy to Operate a Money Transmitting Business charge.

During the pre-trial motions it was discovered that federal prosecutors asked the regulator in charge of issuing money transmitting licenses, if Bill & Keonne's software would require such a license. The regulator explicitly said "no" since their software was non-custodial. https

Federal prosecutors argued that because Bill & Keonne knew criminals could use their software for illicit activity, then that meant they were guilty of Conspiracy to Commit Money Laundering & Conspiracy to Operate an Unlicensed Money Transmitting Business. Prosecutors didn't

When I spend bitcoin, I don't want the receiver to see everything else I spend my bitcoin on. Journalists, activists, & even making donations are all great use-cases for the privacy this software made possible. But just like all tools, criminals also found a use-case for it.

You know criminals can use cars to commit crimes, they can use art & jewelry too. In fact, criminals have found a way to use just about everything in the course of their illicit activities. Yet we aren't arresting car manufacturers or artists for the crimes committed by others. h

With Bitcoin's decentralized architecture & the mobile app Bill & Keonne made, users were able to unlock permissionless electronic cash with the benefit of anonymity. This was a great success for anyone who didn't want the public surveilling their finances. https://t.co/KYdL5VJ8Y

You can see every address bitcoin came from, went to, & how much was spent. You can see when transactions happened & you can follow bitcoin movements backward & forward in perpetuity.
Collaborative transactions make it really difficult to follow those movements accurately. https

The software was a mobile app & anyone in the world could download it & use it for storing bitcoin. Only the end-user would be able to access the bitcoin in the app because the private key was only known to them, with that they could send their bitcoin anywhere. https://t.co/tBL4

The app's features improved the bitcoin user-experience. For example, users could make collaborative transactions with each other.
Why is that good? Because bitcoin transactions are recorded in a public ledger permanently, check it out for yourself:

Bill & Keonne have been sentenced to 4 & 5 years in prison plus $250k fines each. They've been on house arrest for the last 19 months fighting this in court. They had to forfeit $6.3 million to the DOJ.
Why? Because they made software. I'll explain below but sign the petition

Why is it important to share the Samourai Wallet petition?
Because all together, 2.3% of people who view it follow through & sign it. At that conversion rate, it will take 4.3 million views to reach our goal of 100,000 signatures. Every share helps 🙏 https://t.co/9D4b3Bqy3w
