@jukan05 Memory prices are extremely high, and memory companies are earning extraordinary profits. Memory companies should significantly increase the supply of memory chips over the next two years by expanding production capacity significantly to reduce prices substantially.

@jukan05 “Enough” is rarely what drives semiconductor roadmaps.
Incentives do.
If AI keeps making bandwidth and memory capacity the bottleneck, memory makers will optimize for the next constraint not the current minimum.
That’s where the real HBM race is.

TrendForce explains why 4-Hi HBM isn’t enough.
(Personally, I think memory makers wouldn’t produce 4-Hi HBM even if it were enough.)

@jukan05 Oh wow so if we take out the cost of making the product and the cost of distributing the product, we make money. Makes sense why they wanna ban competition, so they don't have to worry about doing either.

@jukan05 I deployed and ran 150,000 GPUs across 7 physical data centers and ran that for years. I did it entirely remote too, during covid.
These days it is a lot more complex. It is more expensive, and consumes a lot more power. Of course.
But, for the actual hardware itself,

I recently heard a compelling explanation for why U.S. frontier AI labs are throwing such staggering numbers of GPUs at training.
Apparently, they use a highly inefficient approach to training AI. They create multiple pools of candidate models and massively expand those pools to

@jukan05 I'm actually surprised to the downside. I believe Grok 4 was trained on a similar number of GPUs. Of course, those were H100 equivalents, and these are probably B200 equivalents, but I would still have bet that training runs these days are in the hundreds of thousands of

Looking at predictions like these, I think Demis Hassabis was absolutely right to pursue AI applications in science and mathematics, but he moved too early. He should have focused more on improving AI’s fundamental capabilities.
Another thought comes to mind: if AlphaFold was
