Laparoscopes come in angled varieties that allow the user to see around corners they otherwise wouldn't be able to reach.
Rotating the light source changes the angle of view to be opposite of the direction of the light source.

Laparoscopes function as lenses and are either fixed or zoom focal lengths.
Unlike traditional 📷 lenses, which consist of a series of lenses, laparoscopes use glass rods/fibers that simplify manufacturing and ⬆️ brightness/clarity.
In general, ⬆️ scope diameter = ⬆️ light

The camera head/body often has buttons with functions that differ depending on model and manufacturer.
Common functions include recording, changing the light source output, and setting the white balance.

Gel or fiber-optic cables allow the transmission of light from a separate source into an attachment on the laparoscope.
The tip of the light source and laparoscope are areas of significant heat transmission and should not be placed on the patient or drapes!
