I still often think about that horrific story I wrote and filed. I still feel regret and shame. I still wish I could unring that bell.

I know right now the girl who has died is not named and so it feels less morally culpable to write about her death before COD is established.

My intentions were not to cause harm - but I caused immense pain, harm and hurt. We named the girl. I didn't realize we published the story on what would have been her birthday. When the complaints started coming in I felt sick.
As a parent now I feel even sicker.

I had spoken to several sources but not her parents. Her obit mentioned eating disorders but her cause of death was still only speculated. I tried to write an analytical piece about eating disorders in boarding facilities.
