WR DK Metcalf was also given a full 2-year ($60M) guarantee at signing upon his trade from Seattle. Porter Jr. has legs to negotiate on here, but the Steelers have been extremely rigid with this for a long time.

The crux of Joey Porter Jr.'s extension impasse with the Steelers: contract structure.
The Steelers' organizational precedent is not guaranteeing money past the first year -- but they made an exception for T.J. Watt. Porter's side wanted them to deviate from precedent again.

@spotrac To be clear (for everyone else) this is a simple 1 year contract that will cost the Raiders $11.3 million.
There is a 0.0% chance he will be on the team next year and will not be collecting that extra $80 million.
It’s creative bookkeeping making it a 5 year contract

This structure forces the #Falcons to pay him a maximum of $8.7M in 2026, stemming from a guaranteed roster bonus on his previous contract.

@spotrac You don't have to cut him. Send him home. They've paid the money, they've realized the mistake. Stop adding to the mistake.
