For an idea of his job
PKU supercomputing team is very likely the best university team in the world, and he was the captain, under whom it won #1 and #2 place at top competitions. Shengyu is literally one of the world's best active experts in high performance computing.

@teortaxesTex perfectly capture the sentimental split between China and the West regarding AI. Most Chinese are excited about the possibility of realizing communism while most Westoids are all doom and gloom

I Have No Choice but to Bury My Talent in Yesterday
A few days ago, DeepSeek v4.1 was released, raising the ceiling of what small models can do by yet another notch.
AI has advanced far faster than anyone

astonishing blogpost from Shengyu Liu (刘胜与, also known as interestingLSY/intlsy), kernel engineer at DeepSeek. The first part is his personal struggle with the fact that his work is about to render his beloved craft obsolete. The second is…
well. let's just say we agree. https://

I think we're generally done with "ability to do X" benchmarks. Labs can just point their machines at the next hill the moment it's announced, and in a few months it's not just conquered but smashed to bits. Everything is environment.
EdgeBench-type meta evals are all we have now

I guess I'm past the point where I feel like explaining my actual judgement algorithm, or why Astra != Minimax, to some anklebiter. In a week my position will simply be common knowledge and these xiaoren will update accordingly or at least shut up. I'm right ur wrong, simple as.

Truns out the "AGI" benchmark was an anthropomorphic projection and its just a useless puzzle trinket. It means NOTHING about generality

@cremieuxrecueil Maybe we stop exporting the silicon needed for chips. Because they all rely on US silicon.
Believing that China will 'outpace' the US on AI is a complete grift because its literally not possible unless we allow it.

@teortaxesTex I know it is all about being practical and nothing personal, but limiting their hires to Chinese speakers is a self-defeating move, in my opinion. There have to be some exceptions, right?

@teortaxesTex unfortunately i think with the way things are headed, it will nuke your ability to do anything AI related in the US
you’ll have to be all in on deepseek
but perhaps you should be?

I officially petition my followers and anyone interested who speaks Chinese fluently and might have the chops for this job:
Please, try to join DeepSeek. This really is a special company. They make history. You'll have so much more to be proud of than professional success alone.
