The iconic wax seal on Paganini’s Il Cannone was added in 1851, when Genoa formally received the violin.
It was originally applied to the maple back.
That proved damaging to the varnish, so the seal was moved to the back of the scroll.
The faint scar it left is still visible

It's called tambour (or Luneville) embroidery and uses a tiny hook instead of a needle to create super fast chain-stitch work.
It started in 18th‑century France, and later became a foundation technique for Haute Couture http
